What is a Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a relatively new treatment in the beauty industry, increasingly favored due to the excellent results achievable without resorting to surgical intervention or other wrinkle treatments.

During a thread lift procedure, we use surgical, fully degradable threads that are placed under the skin to either slightly pull the skin back or stimulate local collagen production in areas that have become wrinkled and slack.

Regular Thread Lift versus Mini Thread Lift

What distinguishes a mini thread lift from a regular thread lift? Despite its name, a mini thread lift does not actually result in any lift. It involves small, thin threads placed under the skin in specific areas.

This procedure induces powerful collagen stimulation and can help smooth out wrinkles. Common treatment areas include smoke lines around the mouth, laugh lines on the cheeks, and wrinkles under the eyes.

On the other hand, a regular thread lift creates the traditional “lift.” This procedure uses slightly thicker threads with small hooks (barbs) that attach to the skin. The threads are then pulled back to create a lift effect.

What Does a Thread Lift Treatment Entail?

Before the treatment, a consultation is always provided at our Marbella clinic to discuss the results you desire and what you can expect from the procedure. We determine the number of threads needed to achieve the best results.

To minimize discomfort, an anesthetic is injected into the treatment area. An insertion is then made with a very thin needle, where the threads are inserted. Once the threads attach to the skin, we pull the skin back.

Does a Thread Lift Treatment Hurt?

Since we anesthetize the area, the treatment should not cause pain but may feel a bit uncomfortable.

How Long Does a Thread Lift Procedure Take?

The entire treatment, including the consultation, takes about an hour at our clinic in Marbella.

How Long Do Results from a Thread Lift Last?

The threads themselves remain under the skin for about 6-8 months. Because they stimulate collagen production, the results last even after the threads have dissolved. We usually estimate that the result of a thread lift lasts about 1-2 years.

When Will I See Results from a Thread Lift Treatment?

The effects of the treatment are immediately noticeable but continue to improve in the following weeks. The final result is visible after about 8-12 weeks when the newly stimulated collagen has had time to form.

How Will I Feel Immediately After the Treatment?

After the treatment, the area may feel a bit tight, especially when making certain movements or expressions.

In some cases, small folds may appear in the skin, but these usually smooth out after 1-2 weeks. Mild tenderness may occur but is typically insignificant.

Can I Go Back to Work After a Thread Lift?

As bruising may occur and the insertion holes need to be taped, it might be beneficial to go home and rest after the procedure. However, you can certainly return to work the day after the treatment if necessary.

What Are the Risks of a Thread Lift?

Thread lift treatments are generally low-risk. Bruising and slight swelling may occur after the treatment. In rare cases, infection can occur in the treated area, especially if aftercare instructions are not followed properly.

Can I Undergo a Thread Lift While Pregnant or Breastfeeding?

No, we recommend postponing all types of beauty treatments until after pregnancy and breastfeeding

When Should You Avoid a Thread Lift?

You should be in good health before undergoing a thread lift. If you’re on any blood thinners or immunological medications, it’s not advisable to get a thread lift. Likewise, if you have active acne, infection, or severe scarring in the area to be treated, you should avoid this procedure.

Post-Treatment Care: What Should I Keep in Mind After a Thread Lift?

After a thread lift, we aim for the threads to integrate with the skin. Therefore, it’s necessary to avoid all exercise for at least one week following the treatment.

For up to a month, it’s recommended to engage in light exercise and avoid dental visits where you have to open your mouth wide for an extended period.

Can I Apply Makeup Afterwards?

You should avoid makeup immediately after the treatment. However, if you need to cover bruises in the days following the procedure, be very gentle and use as little force as possible when applying makeup.

Can I Enhance My Lips with a Thread Lift?

Yes, it is possible to place mini threads along the lip contour to provide slight definition. This method is suitable for those who don’t necessarily want fuller lips but desire a bit more definition.

Can I Lift My Eyebrows or Achieve “Foxy Eyes” with a Thread Lift?

Absolutely, you can lift the eyebrows using threads. This procedure is often referred to as “foxy eyes,” “cat eyes,” or similar, as a thread can also be placed on the outer edge of the eye to lift the tail of the eyelid.
